Big Creek Lodge sits on six acres adjacent to the North Mills River Recreation Area within the Ranger District of Pisgah National Forest. Formerly part of 360 acre farm, Whitewater now protects the last 6 acres and the farmhouse not purchased by the National Forest Service as a part of the Pisgah National Forest.
The property features direct access to the North Mills River and Rocky Fork for fishing and exploring, in addition to direct access to the Trace Ridge and North Mills River trail heads. Guests can connect out the front door to hundreds of miles of singletrack for hiking, backpacking, and mountain biking as well as the gravel riding for which the area is famous.
The Lodge is located within 30 minutes of downtown Asheville and Brevard, including a wide range of breweries, galleries and restaurants, in addition to numerous other destinations in Western North Carolina. Also 30 minutes away is Dupont State Park also renowned for it mountain biking and trails and waterfalls. Located in the heart of the “Land of Waterfalls” Big Creek Lodge provides immediate access to over 250 waterfalls. Yellow Gap Road, a 12 mile long, gravel forest service road is a famous (if not infamous) gravel biking route that starts at the Lodge and ends on the Blue Ridge Parkway after 2,200 feet of climbing. If the legs are still there, continue climbing another 2,500 feet up to Mt Pisgah before screaming back down Wash Creek Rd to the lodge for a 42 mile gravel grinder loop.
Lodge Interior
The Lodge’s rustic exterior is matched inside with pine paneling and hardwood floors. The large kitchen offers access to a full laundry room and full bath. A wood burning fireplace in the den supplements full air and heating systems. Starlink satellite provides wireless internet.

Located 5 miles from the town of Mills River, the Lodge is located on Yellow Gap road, known as one of the most scenic and challenging gravel biking routes in the Southeast. The Sierra Nevada Brewery is located in the town of Mills River along with the Appalachian Mountain Brewery, Mills River Brewing Company. Just down the road outside of Dupont State Forest is the Oskar Blues Taproom.
Big Creek Lodge is located inside of Pisgah National Forest in the North Mills Recreation area. The North Mills River, Rocky Fork Creek flow across the property offering private access to these famous trout streams. The accommodation features a stocked fishing pond, trail head access, a bike storage and maintenance facility, outdoor fire pits, and open fields on both sides of Yellow Gap Road for programming and private events.
Pisgah National Forest is the “Cradle of Forestry” with the highest peaks east of the Mississippi River located in this 513,000 acres of protected land. Pisgah is considered one of the nation’s premier outdoor recreation playgrounds. Mention Pisgah and nearby Dupont State Park and bike riders from all of bristle with anticipation. Pisgah’s whitewater rivers and waterfalls lead to some of the best trout fishing in the country.
