Overlooking the banks of the Cooper River lies the oldest home in the Southern United States. This National Historic Landmark, historic home, and former rice plantation is comprised of 323 acres of wetlands and hardwood and long leaf pine forests protected in a conservation easement. Just 25 minutes outside of Charleston, South Carolina, Middleburg offers a step back in time as well as access to the best fishing, biking, paddling, and relaxation in the Lowcountry.

Stay at Middleburg

Four historic buildings serve as the centerpiece of this former rice estate, dating back to the 17th century. The Cooper River no longer transports rice downstream to Charleston, but it still offers fishing and river access to some of the region's best recreation. Middleburg can accommodate up to 28 people for overnight accommodations. The 323 acres serve as an ideal backdrop for weddings and other private events as well. Whitewater hosts several biking, running, and nature-based events at Middleburg throughout the year.
